    The Opening Ceremony was organised in the afternoon of 28 March 2015 at the foyer of the Lecture Hall at the Hong Kong Science Museum to kick off the Programme. The Award Presentation Ceremony was held during the Opening Ceremony at which prizes and awards were presented to the winners of the “Engineering and You” Photo Competition and the HKIE Mobile Game Apps Competition 2015.

  • Project Site Visits - Civil Aviation Department Education Path

    Civil Aviation Department Education Path

    To enhance public’s interest and promote a better understanding of the development of the air transport industry, Civil Aviation Department (CAD) has set up the Aviation Education Path as an integral part of the CAD Headquarters building.

    There established three exhibition galleries demonstrating, in general, aviation history in Hong Kong, aircraft construction and associated cabin safety features, airport operations, aviation security, runway characteristics, air traffic management, the use of flight recorders in accident investigation, and measures employed by the aviation sector to minimise the impact on the environment.

  • Project Site Visits - MTR Kowloon Bay Depot

    MTR Kowloon Bay Depot

    Kowloon Bay Depot is one of the major facilities in the MTR system for the cleaning, routine and heavy maintenance of trains.  It is also equipped with the specialist maintenance equipment and testing facilities for the component overhauls. Apart from the train maintenance facilities, it also houses other supporting facilities like Operators Training Centre, Main Store, and staff amenities.

     

    By visiting the Kowloon Bay Depot, visitors will have a better understanding of the operations and maintenance activities of the Depot, and have the opportunity to experience various train operations training facilities, eg a cab simulator.

  • Project Site Visits - Black Point Power Station and Castle Peak Power Station

    Black Point Power Station and Castle Peak Power Station

    Castle Peak Power Station is one of the world’s largest and cleanest coal fired power stations which was constructed in the 1980s. Emissions Control Project has been in place to further reduce emissions since 2010. ElectriCity is an educational facility showcasing the principles of electricity, power generation, distribution and clean fuel.

     

    Commissioned in phases from 1996 to 2006, Black Point Power Station is one of the world’s largest gas-fired combined cycle power stations that fuelled by natural gas to reduce total emissions. The “Black Point Power Station Gallery” is a platform features the Natural Gas and Fuel Mix Plan.

       

    Through the journey, visitors can learn more about power generation, environmental protection facilities, and the work done by power companies to ensure reliable power supply.

    Tsing Ma Control Area and Tsing Sha Control Area

    Tsing Ma Control Area and Tsing Sha Control Area are important transportation networks in Hong Kong. The two Control Areas consist of four world-class cable suspension bridge and cable-stayed bridges; they are the Tsing Ma Bridge, the Kap Shui Mun Bridge, the Ting Kau Bridge and the Stonecutters Bridge. Through this visit, participants not only can gain a better understanding of how these important bridges are built, they can also visit facilities such as bridge cables and construction equipment in person.

Awards photos of the “Engineering and You” Photo Competition and winning projects of the HKIE Mobile Game Apps Competition 2015 would also be shown in the Exhibition.
